How to Blur Faces and Personal Info in Photos

2026-06-13

Why hide it?

Shipping labels in resale photos, strangers' faces in group shots, addresses or account numbers in proof photos — once they're online, they're hard to take back. Reliably masking sensitive areas before posting is the safest protection.

Gaussian blur vs mosaic

A Gaussian blur smears edges for a natural look, but applied lightly the original may still be faintly visible. A mosaic covers the area with large pixels that firmly block recognition. For text or numbers (plates, addresses, card numbers) that must not be recoverable, use a mosaic or a strong blur.

How to mask properly

  • Paint slightly wider than the target to cover the edges
  • Use a mosaic — not a light blur — for text and numbers
  • Raise the intensity enough that the shape is gone
  • After saving, zoom into the result to confirm nothing shows

After you blur

The result is saved as a PNG, and the hidden information can't be recovered from the downloaded file. If you're posting to social media or a blog, shrink it first with the image compressor for a faster upload.
